Quotes Regarding The Horror Genre:

“It [horror genre] never dies. It just keeps getting reinvented and it always will. Horror is a universal language; we’re all afraid. We’re born afraid, we’re all afraid of things: death, disfigurement, loss of a loved one. Everything that I’m afraid of, you’re afraid of and vice versa. So everybody feels fear and suspense.” -John Carpenter

“Part of what horror is, is taking risks and going somewhere that people think you’re not supposed to be able to go, in the name of expressing real-life fears.”

“Those who boast of their dislike of horror movies are only revealing their inability to surrender control and have fun. Avoid.” -Stewart Stafford

“We deal with so many nightmares on a regular basis. When I’m watching a horror movie, there’s a pattern, a sense of control in them. I’m just an observer, not having to deal with any of the repercussions. It’s a nice dream to think monsters play by the rules, that they’ve got a pattern you can unlock and follow.” -Katherine McIntyre, Rising for Autumn

“After watching too many scary movies it was hard not to have an overactive imagination, along with an inherent distrust of seemingly benevolent (and sometimes inanimate) things, like lawn gnomes.” -Kat Stiles, Connected

“Imagine how more exciting our lives would be, if we lived a nightmare, a walking Jason, an article about a deformed Leather Face, a HELL raising Cenobite, an expressionless white masked Halloween killer, an actual sighting of flying lights, or even a proven haunted town named Silent Hill” -Dean Mackin

“Often, in horror films, the single most effective device for building a sense of scariness is the soundtrack: the clanking of chains, the groaning of off-stage ghouls, the unmistakable sound of a cannibal rustic firing up a chainsaw.” –John Lanchester

Goodbye Summer!
Happy Summer! There is nothing quite like the feeling of summer, although every season has its appeals. Perhaps it’s the way the stifling weather tends to lend to a slower pace in general or maybe the feeling is rooted in distant memories of all those summers off from school as a child, when we would be best entertained by camping, swimming, and occasional nighttime trips to the drive-in movie theater. With those memories in mind, I thought it would be fun to bid farewell to the hottest time of the year by sharing 14 summer horror films to sink your teeth into before the official start of autumn, the spookiest season and my personal favorite.

What is Summer?
The word summer was first recorded before the year 900 and is said to come from the Old English word for the season, sumor. If you would like to delve deeper into the words origins, consider visiting: dynamiclanguage.com
Many people consider Labor Day the final huzzah of summer, however, the astronomical summer lasts from the summer solstice in June (on the 20th in 2024) until the autumnal equinox, which occurs in the Northern Hemisphere in September (on the 22nd in 2024). This is based on the position of the earth in relation to the sun. Alternately, the meteorological definition of summer refers to the three warmest months, June to August. This consistency helps meteorologists to collect and organize data easier.

An Important Note:
*Something for everyone does not necessarily mean everyone would enjoy all of the films I have included. You should consider that the movies themselves, as well as the style it which the stories were filmed vary a great deal. Some have explicit content and some may be considered family friendlier, so it is up to you to use your own judgement to decide if you would like the viewing experience or not, do not rely on the “rating” alone.
